Both products have received Health Canada approval and the European CE mark as in-vitro diagnostic medical devices. As opposed to a conventional stain, the slides are stained specifically for DNA. This allows a computer-controlled high-resolution microscope (cytometer) to make measurements of thousands of cell nuclei and sort them according to their DNA content. DNA content provides the cytopathologist with an objective measure of large-scale DNA abnormality and it may indicate precancerous or cancerous changes in the tissue area sampled.
